Lighting Designer

The duty of the Lighting Designer is to convert the Directors’ general vision of the scene lighting into an aesthetically pleasing and technically feasible design. It is important for the LD to be aware of blocking, so that they know where, when, and how actors will need to be lit. The Lighting Designer will work very closely with the Master Electrician, who will lead the rigging of the lights and aid the Lighting Designer in determining what is and is not technically feasible. He or she, in conjunction with the Master Electrician, will also be in charge of all lighting-related purchases, and maintain the portion of the budget allocated for the lighting. An Assistant Lighting Designer may be chosen at a later date at the request of the LD, and a Lighting Mentor may or may not be provided, according to the skill level of the chosen Lighting Designer. Light Operators may also be chosen at the discretion of the LD and ME as Tech Sunday approaches.
