[edit] Post Mortem: THE CRUCIBLE

Producer: Michael Schaaff

Cast:

  • Midweeks were a mess
  • Stop being immature in terms of receiving notes from Bob
  • be more respectful to directors
  • Show up for call times

Lights:

  • good job (x7)
  • fire = good
  • got new people (YAY)
  • make sure to gel SM lights well
  • communication horrible with director
  • communicate with actors about special lighting info (ie..Katie with red light)
  • know how many lights are usable

Props:

  • Didn’t get them fast enough
  • props...stay on stage
  • props chair should have helped out more

Set:

  • awesome
  • freakin fantastic

Sound:

  • started pre-show music late every night
  • bars were not weighted properly where mics were hung
  • wires run poorly
  • period music (not so much)

Costumes/Hair/Make-up:

  • color changing fabric would be awesome (light request)
  • good job
  • work music needs to be more than one CD long (enough Wicked already)

Box Office:

  • Made money....BOOYA!
  • group reservations...need to work out logistics of retrieving them
  • will call
  • don’t leave stuff in the office
  • at 7...everyone backstage...there should be no one in the lobby entering thru the lobby

Publicity:

  • not really organized at beginning...got it together at the end
  • problems with getting things done (too much to do...not enough people to do it)
  • what did happen was done really well
  • poly ad on time (YAY)
  • used all the posters (YAY)
  • need to hit the nursing homes
  • poster in the drama sections of libraries
  • question patrons where they found out about the show
  • GO poster blitz GO
  • Program missing a lot of things.
  • post program for longer period of time
  • Alpha Psi Omega info missing (it was in season bill)
  • listing of scenes/locations

Directors:

Deb

  • Don’t change things after Tech Day. Meaning no changes...unless earth shattering
  • Director notes...late (redid program to accommodate no notes...then got them half an hour before printing...had to reorganize)
  • Managed practices...some were very unorganized (actors were there that really didn’t need to be)
  • Notes at the end of the night...people had to stay for notes when they were no longer needed after first scene
  • some people were scared to talk to her about problems
  • shadows not at rehearsal for like 2 weeks...changed their blocking while they weren’t there
  • Make it to production meetings (last 3?)

Bob

  • tone is confrontational
  • take notes...don’t try and fix things during the show
  • stay off COM...if you have to go on COM...know COM etiquette
  • don’t go backstage...kind of distracting
  • actors are different than techies, treat them differently
  • dedication was there...may not have acted right...but he tried
  • less dogmatic/”holier than thou”...only people that are allowed to talk like that are Director/SM/and Producer

Stage Management:

  • good job
  • STAGE HANDS- don’t block fire exit stage left
  • STAGE HANDS- show up to midweeks
  • STAGE HANDS- don’t bother actors
  • STAGE HANDS- control them
  • be more obnoxious (ie. “strike fear into the hearts of the actors”)...needs to be done to really control the show as is your job.
  • a little TOO laid back to command much respect, which is why it seemed to be so out of control.
  • needed a baseball bat
  • Tech Sunday
  • make clear that you have a lot of other stuff to worry about and will not tolerate the screwing around the actors did.
  • SM has tech to worry about and needs to expect the actors to be on time, check their props, be quiet backstage, etc. We achieved that, but late in the production. This is the day you take control of the show.
  • CURTAIN- don’t hit actors...and open when lights are off

Producer:

  • Cast/Crew commentary....get to work
  • more than 24 hours notice on production meetings
  • fixing Deb didn’t happen
  • allowed to go to E-comm if problems
  • fixing rehearsal time got better eventually
  • Rob (Assistant Producer) was invisible...make him more useful
  • it was “happenin”...got people excited about the show
  • 24 hour work parties...pizza...good stuff
  • tell designers that they have final say
  • STAGE HANDS-put them on the mailing list
  • TRY to make Tech Sunday 2-weeks out.

GENERAL NOTES:

  • Try not too over book the playhouse
  • didn’t have enough access to playhouse to get stuff done
  • a little tight...to many things conflicting with Crucible stuff
